5 Pieces of Useful (And Beautiful) Aquarium Furniture

What do fish tanks and arm chairs have in common? If you said, “absolutely nothing,” then you’d only be right 99 times out of 100. Most pieces of furniture are built out of wood or fabric, but I think that shows lack of imagination. Why build furniture when you can build fishiture? OK, I admit: that name needs some work, but the general principle still applies. Just become most aquariums are rectangular boxes you place on a table, that doesn’t mean that your aquarium can’t also have a slightly more utilitarian function. So, today we’re going to take a look at five handy pieces of aquarium furniture.

5. The Aquarium Sofa

An aquarium sofa is even better than an aquarium armchair! This sofa aquarium has a tank beneath each arm rest, which makes it the perfect piece of furniture for couples who argue endlessly about fresh water versus salt water aquariums. With this, you should be able to sit both fish fans down in one spot without coming to blows.

4. Fish Coffee Table

Be honest with yourself. You just keep books on your coffee table because you want to look smart when guests come over, and nobody ever reads them, anyway. Why leave around some boring $20 book on wine or WWII historywhen you can fill your coffee table with water, coral, and exotic fish? And if you place your coffee table in the same spot where most people put them, your fishy buddies can watch TV with you.

3. Office Desk Tank

I love this idea. Replace a secretary’s desk with a fish tank desk and you’ve got built-in entertainment for any of your clients who have to sit around in the waiting room. Besides, work environments can be so stressful. Nothing will cool your nerves better than seeing a goldfish make kissy faces at you as you hunker down over your desk, struggling to finish a report that’s due in an hour.

2. Aquarium TV Stand

As if having an aquarium coffee table you can glance at while you flip through the channels wasn’t enough, this massive TV mount is large enough to hold three wide-screen TVs, as well as hundreds of species of fish. As awesome as it would be to have an aquarium like this, I bet that the constant vibrations from the TV speakers would make the fish feel like they’re in the middle of a movie set. Let’s just hope they imagine that the movie is “Finding Nemo” and not “Jaws.”

1. Headboard

Gazing at an aquarium seems to have a calming effect on people. Watching the fish drift about is a great way to relax at the end of the day and let your stress slip out of you. This bed headboard works on that principle. As you rest, the fish will swim about above your head and the soothing sound of bubbling water will accompany you as you drift off to sleep. Though, you’d have to be careful about what you stick in the tank. Waking up in the middle of the night to the nether regions of an octopus could scar you for life.
