A little while ago I spent a week in Florida taking in the sights and enjoying the local cuisine. I got a bit sunburned and got a very noticeable flip-flop tan, but for the most part it was a blast! One of the most memorable moments of the vacation was when I stopped by Laguna Beach. I remember there was this large section of rock that jutted out into the ocean (seen in the picture below). The whole scene was absolutely beautiful! Continue reading…

Most aquariums fall into one of two categories: a lush freshwater aquascape with lots of vibrant green plants, or a tropical saltwater aquarium with beautiful coral and brightly-colored fish. It’s not surprising at all that these two aquascapes are the most popular because they’re so incredibly gorgeous, but some aquascaping fans prefer unorthodox forms of beauty. Continue reading…

Steve Jobs and Apple forever changed the world of art with their revolutionary design philosophy. They didn’t use flashy colors and loud announcers who shout, “More, more, more!” Instead, they opted for simplistic black, grey, and black color schemes that utilize tons of white space and elegantly simple designs. Their products proved to be breath of fresh air in a world that bombards us with sensory overload. Continue reading…

Interior decoration is an art form. You have to take into consideration a hundred tiny little details about a living space — the room’s size, the flow of foot traffic, the color of the walls, art pieces, the view outside the window, and so forth. Seamlessly incorporating a custom aquarium into a living space can be a little bit tricky, but it has an incredible payoff because the living ecosystem enhances the beauty of the room. We’ve talked about aquariums and interior decoration a few times on this blog, but today we want to venture into new territory: creating harmony between multiple aquariums. Continue reading…

As much as I love aquascaping, it suffers from one major drawback: it’s kind of hard for newcomers to break into the hobby. To be honest, I think that’s the main reason why more people don’t own aquariums. Continue reading…

Technology is getting crazy. The military is building laser guns, we can carry around the Internet in our pockets, and 3D printers allow you to create virtually anything in just a few minutes. You might think that aquariums would be somewhat removed from the technology explosion because the natural world and technology generally don’t mix very well, but you’d be dead wrong. Continue reading…

Aquariums are kind of like flatscreen TVs. They’re a pain to set up, but once you’ve got them up and running they’ll give you hours of entertainment. The difficult set up of aquariums make them a permanent fixture in many homes. In fact, many homeowners choose to install aquariums within the actual architecture of houses. Continue reading…

Aquariums are unique in the world of home decoration. Unlike paintings, which are flat and two-dimensional, and unlike televisions and furniture, which generally face in just one direction, aquariums can provide a complete 360 degree viewing experience. It’s common to see aquariums set flush against walls or tucked into the corners of rooms, so it’s easy to forget this fact. Continue reading…
